Finding
out about hospital referrals
All hospitals in the UK
are taking steps to keep waiting times to see a specialist as short
as possible. However, there are still problems. If you
feel you want to know when you are likely to be seen, there is an
system specifically set up to help you; ring 0845 609 9876 or try
Tameside General Hospital appointments 0161 331 6093. If you
are unhappy with your waiting time or feel your condition is getting
worse or we have not appreciated the seriousness of your symptoms,
please ring us at the practice. There is no need to come in
for an appointment as we rarely need to re-examine you.
If you appointment is
at a different hospital other than Tameside the following numbers
are the main switch boards of other local hospitals. Ask to
be put through to 'appointments' or the secretary of the consultant
you have been referred to.

Choose and Book
(booking your hospital appointment yourself)
You have a choice of any
hospital in the UK for your medical care. We pass all our
referrals to a 'Choice and Booking Service' who contact you to discuss
when are where you would like to be seen. You can choose the
shortest waiting list, the nearest hospital or a specific service.
They are here to help you get the right care for you.
Missed Appointments
Every day we receive notice
of people who have not turned up for an appointment at the hospital.
There can be some very good reasons for this but often there is
not. If you do not want to attend a hospital appointment then
please let our receptionists know and we will check firstly to make
sure your not placing yourself in danger and then arrange for the
appointment to be used for someone else. We are always told
when someone misses an appointment and it forms part of your medical
records.
